Women essential to transform food systems: FAO (El Sol de Tampico)

El Sol de Tampico published an article stating that gender equality is a fundamental condition for transforming food systems, which currently have a fierce environmental footprint and very strong social lags. We need food systems where, in addition to the gender perspective, an intersectional approach is promoted. It is also important to mention that although food systems can be a source of empowerment for women, they can also be a source of stereotype in the execution of these processes. Jemimah Njuki, director for Africa Region and lead for the Gender Equality and Empowerment work for the UN Food Systems Summit, pointed out that to transform food systems, these schemes must be sustainable, seeking to deliver food nutritious and sustainable for all, that protects the environment, provides decent jobs, and places gender equality and female empowerment at the center.
