Akhter Ahmed

Akhter Ahmed is a Senior Research Fellow in the IFPRI’s Poverty, Gender, and Inclusion Unit and Country Representative for IFPRI Bangladesh. He has worked on strategies for agricultural and rural development, social protection, and women’s empowerment to reduce poverty, food insecurity, and undernutrition in developing countries including Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Malawi, the Philippines, and Turkey.

In this session, CGIAR aims to highlight the role of research and innovation in achieving sustainable and resilient food systems. Discussions on the current state of agricultural research for development, and then a deeper dive into CGIAR’s portfolio prospectus of new initiatives and how it can help transform food systems will take place. As part of the program, a moderated discussion will also bring together representatives from different stages of research delivery. Each speaker will explore research and innovation priorities across different regions and sectors, and present actionable solutions and opportunities for achieving better nutrition for all.
