Across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), food systems and livelihoods face mounting pressures from economic uncertainty, climate change, resource constraints, and conflict. In Egypt, ongoing economic reforms, food security challenges, and efforts to strengthen social protection and economic inclusion underscore the importance of evidence-informed policies that balance growth, resilience, and household welfare. Drawing on recent and ongoing IFPRI research from Egypt, Yemen and Sudan, the seminar will explore two thematic dialogues:
- Transforming Food Systems for Greater Productivity and Resilience: Exploring how agricultural innovation, stronger food markets, and more resilient food systems can improve productivity and food security amid resource constraints and economic, climatic, and conflict-related shocks.
- From Social Protection to Resilient Livelihoods and Inclusive Growth: Examining how social protection and development interventions can move beyond immediate assistance to strengthen livelihoods, expand economic opportunities, and build long-term resilience.
Through research presentations and interactive policy discussions, the seminar aims to: present evidence from research by IFPRI and partners and draw implications for policies, programs, and investments; facilitate exchanges among policymakers and development partners; and identify opportunities for future research and collaboration across the region.
The agenda will be announced in the coming days.
