Promote a space for reflection and regional exchange aimed at identifying transformative and scalable experiences of agri-food public policies, with emphasis on those that generate public goods, articulate multiple actors and levels of government, incorporate innovative mechanisms and recognize the necessary enabling conditions for their implementation and sustainability.
This dialogue prioritizes:
- Experiences of institutional transformation.
- Realistic and feasible transition policies.
- Integration of instruments (regulation, financing, approaches).
- Mechanisms for effective governance and structured participation of governments, civil society, the private sector and international cooperation.
- Capacity building, adequate financing, and regulatory frameworks as enabling conditions for public action.

Special Session: 50th Anniversary of IFPRI | Special Event | 15:00 pm – 17:40 pm (Costa Rica)
Food systems, economic structures, and rural areas in Latin America and the Caribbean have undergone profound transformation over the past five decades. Yet, the future of LAC’s food systems will depend on how the region anticipates change and acts accordingly. Drawing on foresight research, IFPRI’s 2025 Global Food Policy Report highlights risks for the region, including an increase in extreme weather events, rapid urbanization, resource degradation, and geopolitical tensions, but also identifies opportunities for more equitable and sustainable paths. Avanzar2030 and other regional initiatives are providing further evidence that preparing for the future will require strategic foresight, institutional innovation, and commitment.
Please join us for this event, where experts from IFPRI and EMBRAPA will review findings and recommendations from the Global Food Policy Report and Avanzar2023’s work, discuss the role of scenario analysis and strategic foresight in guiding policies, and present case studies and regional experiences. A panel of experts will discuss the changing landscape of challenges and opportunities in LAC, policy and institutional innovations with the greatest potential for impact, adaptation, and scaling, and how governments, civil society, and the private sector can collaborate more effectively for long-term impact.
