Three Years of Conflict: What the Evidence Tells Us and What Recovery Requires

Organized by IFPRI, with support from the CGIAR Science Program on Policy Innovations and Food Frontiers and Security
Sudan Conflict Conference (Third Edition)

Hybrid Event at Semiramis Intercontinental Hotel

Cairo, Egypt

April 14 to 15, 2026

  • 9:00 – 5:30 pm (Africa/Cairo)
  • 3:00 – 11:30 am (US/Eastern)
  • 12:30 – 9:00 pm (Asia/Kolkata)

April 2026 marks three years since the outbreak of the conflict in Sudan, which has severely disrupted economic activity, food systems, and social services. More than half of the country’s population is in need of assistance, and communities, markets, and institutions are under unprecedented pressure. Recent evidence from IFPRI and others highlights the scale and multidimensional nature of the crisis, with serious implications for poverty, food security, social protection, agricultural production, and trade.

Join us for the third-annual Sudan Conflict Conference, a recognized platform for evidence-based dialogue to support policy discussions, programmatic alignment, and strategic planning among researchers, policymakers, and humanitarian and development actors. The 2026 Conference will showcase key research outputs and feature the launch of War and Resilience: The Multifaceted Impacts of Sudan’s Conflict and Pathways to Recovery, a new IFPRI book that draws on diverse data sources, historical analysis, and expert forecasting to assess the impacts of Sudan’s conflict.

Speakers will present field-based evidence on a range of conflict impacts, share findings from major initiatives, and highlight operational insights from implementers of assistance, resilience, and development programs. By facilitating discussions between researchers and practitioners, the 2026 Conference aims to strengthen the link between research findings and operational decision-making and translate empirical research into actionable insights for recovery, resilience, and peace-supporting strategies during the continuing conflict.

This event and the research shared through it was supported by the donors who fund the CGIAR’s Science Program on Food Frontiers and Security and Policy Innovations through their contributions to the CGIAR Trust Fund.
